Project Planning and Design The Design Process The design of the City of Light - Kabul is based on a fast computer method for the realization of appropriate urban massing and engineering design. The total project area is about 3.5 km by 1.75 km. most of the southern half of the city of Kabul urban area. The method consists of the following steps:
Step 1. Developing building envelope- an imaginary plane with varying heights based on land use and zoning requirements.
Step 2. Laying an engineering grid over the area of development based on infrastructure needs and ground conditions to generate the most optimum building and road profiles. This grid is then projected through the imaginary plane.
Step 3a. The vertically projected line areas of intersections with the imaginary plane represent the uppermost roof of the massing generated for the entire urban design development. This massing includes retail, commercial, residential, and institutional buildings.
Step 3b.
Step 3c.
Step 3d.
Step 3e.
Step 4. After the removal of the plane, the massing will be looked at as one organized development for the entire area with proper height mix and infrastructure layout.
